5 More Activities You Probably Never Thought You’d Be Able To Find On A Cruise
Rock Climbing: Most Royal Caribbean cruise ships have fully outfitted rock climbing walls on board. Outfitted for children and adults alike, these areas are perfect for a whole family to adventure together, without even leaving the ship! Imagine the incredible views of the sea or mountainous islands that you can achieve from the lofty heights of the rock wall….
Sky Diving Simulation: Royal Caribbean has installed Ripcord by iFly sky diving simulator on its Quantum class ships (Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas). The 23 foot tall glass enclosure is located on the top deck of the ships allowing family and friends to view your experience and offering panoramic ocean views from the enclosure. Instructors are provided, of course, as well as all supplies (jumpsuit, goggles, etc). Cruisers are able to enjoy two short “flights” and there are consistently rave reviews of this unique experience.
Ice Skating: Royal Caribbean has placed ice skating rinks in many of it’s ships, serving as an activity area and an entertainment venue. During the day cruisers can enjoy the rink themselves with rented ice skates. In the evenings the ice rink turns into a magical show arena, featuring performers sharing elaborate performances on the ice. How cool is it that you can spend the morning on a tropical beach and the afternoon skating in an authentic ice rink?
Trapeze Lessons: Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Class ships feature an unique Circus School, located in the SeaPlex multipurpose entertainment and activity center. Cruisers can take the opportunity to fly high, swinging on trapezes and learning the basics of trapeze arts from instructors. Children and adults alike can take short classes with expert instructors in this unique attraction.
Miniature Golf: With a focus on family entertainment and activities many cruise lines feature miniature golf courses on their ships. The courses are usually found on the top sports decks, offering panoramic views of the ocean and warm, fresh breezes while cruisers try their hand at put put golfing.
Cultural and Educational Classes: Many cruise lines now offer a variety of enrichment classes on board to grant cruisers the opportunity to learn and explore different areas while on vacation. From cooking to jewelry making to napkin folding to glass blowing to Apple Genius bar classes, the options are endless, across the industry. Many cruise lines traveling to historical sites in Europe and Asia offer history and culture classes related to the destinations on the itinerary. On Alaska cruises, for instance, Princess cruise lines feature the Glacier Bay Rangers program for children and adults. Actual rangers from the national park come aboard to teach classes and offer creative learning activities for kids to become Glacier Bay Junior Park Rangers. These types of activities allow vacationers to return home not only relaxed and rejuvenated but also enlightened.
